Let’s work together

All folks applying must have…

1. Physical Fitness and Stamina

  • Farm work, especially in a rural forest setting, is physically demanding. Volunteers should be prepared for tasks such as planting, harvesting, chopping wood, building structures, and general maintenance, often in various weather conditions.

2. Basic Gardening and Permaculture Knowledge

  • Familiarity with organic farming, permaculture practices, or agroforestry is usually preferred, as these skills align with sustainable land stewardship and community practices on forest farms. Even if not advanced, having a baseline understanding or willingness to learn quickly is key.

3. Interest in Sustainable Living

  • Intentional communities often emphasize eco-friendly living, such as composting, renewable energy use, waste reduction, and minimal consumption. An applicant should be committed to sustainability and be open to living off-grid or with minimal amenities.

4. Community-Mindedness and Collaboration

  • Living in an intentional community requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cooperate with others. This includes participating in communal decision-making, sharing resources, and respecting diverse lifestyles and values. Prior experience with communal living or cooperative projects can be beneficial.

5. Adaptability and Open-mindedness

  • Rural, relatively off-grid living requires adaptability, especially in unexpected situations like weather events, supply shortages, or mechanical breakdowns. A mindset open to problem-solving and flexibility in daily routines is important.

6. Long-term Commitment and Self-Reliance

  • Since this is a long-term position, candidates should demonstrate the ability to thrive in a rural, sometimes isolated, environment without the constant need for external entertainment or socialization. Self-reliance and personal motivation are crucial for personal well-being.

7. Experience with Building, Carpentry, or General Maintenance

  • Many intentional communities rely on residents to help with ongoing construction, repair, and maintenance projects. Experience or a willingness to learn these hands-on skills is important to us.

8. Emotional Resilience and Conflict Resolution Skills

  • Living and working closely with others in a rural setting can be emotionally challenging. Volunteers should be equipped with conflict resolution and communication skills to maintain harmony within the community.

9. Willingness to Learn and Contribute

  • More than specific technical skills, our education center is seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about learning, willing to contribute in various ways, and flexible enough to take on different roles as needed.
